How We Insulate Central Iowa Homes

Des Moines Spray Foam Insulation insulates and air seals homes, garages, shops and pole buildings in Des Moines and the suburbs around it, from the older neighborhoods near downtown to the new subdivisions in Ankeny, Waukee, Grimes and Bondurant. We spray closed-cell and open-cell foam, blow in cellulose and fiberglass, dense-pack closed walls, and take out old insulation that is damaged, dirty or in the way.

Every job starts at the house. We go up into the attic, down into the basement, and look at the rim joist, the walls and any room that is hard to keep warm. In a Des Moines house built before the war, the leaks are usually open framing, chimney chases and kneewalls. In a house built in the last twenty years, they are more often bonus rooms over the garage, recessed lights and a bare rim joist in the basement. We also look for anything that should be fixed first: roof leaks, wet sill plates, signs of past basement water, knob-and-tube wiring and loose vermiculite.

Then we write down what we would do and why. Spray foam goes where it earns its cost: rim joists, basement walls, kneewalls, vaulted ceilings, walls in additions and steel buildings. On a wide, open attic floor, we usually seal the gaps and blow loose fill on top because it reaches the same R-value for less money.

What to expect from us

  • A visit before a number. We price work we have seen, not work described over the phone.
  • One line per area. The quote lists the material, the depth or thickness, the target R-value and the price for each space.
  • Seal first. Gaps and penetrations get closed before new insulation hides them.
  • Protected rooms. We cover floors and belongings, close off the work area and clean up before we go.
  • Honest timing. Heated basements can be done any month. Cold attics and unheated shops are easier on milder days, and we plan around Iowa weather.
  • No surprise charges. Work starts when you approve the quote, and any change is agreed in writing.
